Festival Ballet Theatre

Founded in 1988 by Salwa Rizkalla, Festival Ballet Theatre is a nonprofit organization dedicated to the artistic enrichment of the Orange County community through professional productions, educational programs and by providing a nurturing and intensive artistic home base to some of Southern California’s most talented dancers. Under the direction of Salwa Rizkalla, Festival Ballet Theatre has grown to become one of Southern California’s most vibrant and accomplished regional ballet companies, boasting a roster of impressive up and coming local talent as well as internationally acclaimed guest artists from the American Ballet Theatre, New York City Ballet, The Bolshoi Ballet, the Kirov Ballet, the Boston Ballet and the Joffrey Ballet.

Festival Ballet Theatre also features a world-renowned guest and resident choreographers that have received critical acclaim and prizes for original work around the globe. Valuing past masterpieces but with an eye on the future, Festival Ballet Theatre presents a repertoire of full-length classical ballets such as Swan Lake, Giselle, The Nutcracker, Sleeping Beauty, Coppelia and Don Quixote as well as an annual Contemporary/Classical repertoire evening that presents new works by some of the nation’s most sought-after choreographers.

Festival Ballet Theatre aspires to be a beacon of artistic excellence in the Orange County area, simultaneously attracting the best in professional dance to its home while sending its own dancers out as artistic ambassadors to the nation. In 2001 Arts Orange County awarded FBT “Outstanding Arts Organization of the Year”.

The company maintains a performance season that extends from Fall through Spring and features:

  • Fall Contemporary/Classical Repertoire
  • Kicking off the season, Festival Ballet Theatre opens with a concert of classical and contemporary pieces by highly acclaimed national and international choreographers, offering a mixed bill of cherished favorites and original choreography to suit every taste.

  • The Nutcracker
  • Festival Ballet Theatre’s enchanting production of the Nutcracker is a stimulating experience for theatergoers of all ages. Opulent sets, elegant choreography and superior artistry are only a few features of this elegant production. Festival Ballet Theatre’s classical rendition of the Nutcracker tells the story of Clara and her whimsical journey through the Land of Sweets, where she learns about life, love and the holiday spirit.

  • Spring Classical Ballet Series
  • Festival Ballet Theatre traditionally concludes its season with a full-length classic. Annually, the company's repertoire features world renowned guest artists in such timeless masterpieces as Swan Lake, Coppelia, Sleeping Beauty, Giselle, Don Quixote and more.

  • FBT Guest Appearances
  • In addition to the regular season, Festival Ballet Theatre accepts invitations for guest dance appearances. Several artistic institutions FBT currently works in conjunction with include; Pacific Symphony Orchestra’s “In the Park” and “Pop Concert” series, Farmers & Merchants Bank “Family Musical Mornings”, South Coast Plaza's "Festival of Children", and Long Beach Symphony Orchestra’s “Family Concert Series”.

Festival Ballet Theatre operates exclusively on private and corporate donations, fundraisers and ticket sales. Individual donors and corporate sponsors are the very foundation of the company’s existence.
